Willis Puppe, 80, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Unity Medical Center in Grafton on Thursday evening, December 6, 2012. Willis Clarence Puppe was born August 25, 1932 at St. Thomas, North Dakota, the son of William and Helen (Diercks) Puppe. He attended school in Crystal, North Dakota and entered the U.S. Army in 1953. On June 26, 1955 her married Bonnie Harlow at Drayton. The couple settled in Grafton for several years before returning to Drayton. Willis worked at the Solar Gas Company and later for the Drayton Police Department. In 1975 he began working at American Crystal Sugar Company, retiring from there in 2002. Willis was a member and former church board president of Trinity Lutheran Church. He also served on the Drayton Volunteer Fire Department and was a Past Commander of American Legion Post #159. Willis was very generous and kind-hearted to his family, friends, community, and church. He never said no to a neighbor in need. He even opened his home to raise an extended famiy. Willis enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, and socializing with his close friends. Later in life he consumed his time with his grandchildren's events, and also caring for all of the family pets. Family members include his wife, Bonnie; children, David (Nancy) Puppe, Grafton, Rodney (Tammy) Puppe, Drayton, Terry (Craig) Anderson, Minto, ND and Jolene (John) Gallagher, Drayton; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Puppe, Thief River Falls, MN and Tom (Zeffy) Puppe also of Thief River Falls; a sister-in-law Anne Puppe, Cavalier, ND and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church at Drayton. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held in Drayton at the Austin Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
