William "Bill" Lindell, 99, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away on Sunday morning, June 4, 2017 at Karlstad Healthcare Center. William was born March 19, 1918 at Kelliher, Minnesota the son of Luther and Gertrude (Hoyum) Lindell. He was baptized on January 19, 1921.   He moved with his family at the age of 6 to Minneapolis, Minnesota and was confirmed on May 14, 1933. Bill graduated from South High School in Minneapolis in 1936.  He was united in marriage to Bernice Paulson on July 15, 1945 at Salem Lutheran Church east of Stephen.  Bill started in farming by helping his uncles Jake and Peter Hoyum in the spring of 1938. They used horses until they got their first tractor in 1943. Bill and Bernice farmed west of Stephen until retirement.  They spent more than 20 winters in Minneapolis working as a professional butler and cook.  They moved into Stephen in 1977 and into Senior Housing in 2005.  Bill enjoyed gardening, reading, bookkeeping and was the 1996 Marshall County Outstanding Senior Citizen.  He was a member of First Lutheran Church and served as head usher and council member for several years.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Bernice; numerous nieces, nephews and 13 godchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Isla and infant sister, Stella; and a nephew, Lawrence Lease.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church at Stephen. Interment will be in Stephen City Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding; special music, Bruce Heggen and Cheryl Aakre; Leslie Widner, organist.  Casket bearers will be Leroy Hougard, Kenneth Heggen, Mark Anderson, Todd Nelson, Roger Nelson and Jonathan Bolduc.
