Obituary

Wilbur Friederich Koop, 92, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Wilbur was born August 22, 1923 at rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota and was the 1st of 8 children born to Friederich and Gertrude (Behrns) Koop. Wilbur married Lillian Jorgensen December 20, 1948 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. In 1959, they moved with five of their children to Hallock where Wilbur started Hallock Electric. Wilbur operated Hallock Electric for almost 40 years until his retirement. In 1962, they purchased the Diamond Motel, changing the name to Valley Motel. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the council, a member of Hallock Two Rivers Golf Course, Hallock Eagles, Hallock Fire Dept, and Hallock Chamber of Commerce. He also served in the U.S. Army in 1949. Wilbur enjoyed golfing, fishing for walleyes on Lake of the Woods, bowling, dancing and traveling. Most of all, Wilbur was the Pinochle aficionado of our family and managed to get all 8 of us kids home for his birthday every year by planning his own party. Wilbur and Lillian were married for over 65 years. Wilbur is survived by his sons; Gary (Elaine), Hallock, MN, Wayne (Holly), Park Rapids, MN, Rodney (Karen), Dalton, GA, Paul (JamieSue), North Pole, AK and David (Kim), St. Cloud, MN, daughters; Jean (Clayton) Sjostrand, Lake Bronson, MN, J'nell (Jerry) Amundson, Alexandria, MN and Jandy (Robert) Quade, Crookston, MN; 26 grandchildren, Marcy (JT) Anderson, Travis, Trevor and Garrett Koop, Misti, Casey Koop, Brittany (Ben) Stover, Taylor (Jenna), Whitney (Kirsten) Sjostrand, Jenna (Jake) Skifstad, Anthony (Liz) Amundson, Haley (Ryan) Klemcke, Dallas (Cathy), Danielle (Josh) Putnam, Dayton, Matthew (Fernanda), Stacey ( Cisco) Sanhueza, Melody (Raynard) Chaney, Stephanie, Michael and Amos Koop, Rhonda Quade, Corey, Cameron, K'lynn and Carter Koop, 25 great grandchildren; Kinley, Levi, Brody, Sydney, Mack, Isabel, Henry, Gustin, Seth, Toby, Meg, Troy, Ellie, Nate, Everly, Delaney, Palmer, Natalie, Sabastian, Oliver, Yarden, Isaiah, Sean, Leon, and Diego. Brothers Marvin (Shirley), Donald (Barb) sisters; Mable, Esther (Joe) and Verna (Wally). He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian (Sept 9, 2014), parents, grandson Charles Sjostrand and sisters Doris and Marion. Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
