Tilden "T" Percy Spilde, 86, of Halma, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 21st 2013 with his entire family by his side. Born in Halma, MN on April 28, 1927, Tilden graduated from Karlstad High School in 1945, and served his country aboard the USS Chicago with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After returning to the family farm, Tilden was again called to duty during the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Tilden was married to Shirley Jane Bakke on October 2, 1955; they were married 53 years. Tilden farmed and ranched, in addition to working as a potato inspector, in Northern Minnesota for most of his life. After semi-retiring from farming, Tilden kept busy driving a school bus and kept a rural mail route. Actively involved in athletics, he carried the role of the official scorekeeper for the Karlstad Rabbits/Wildcats for many years. Tilden regularly traveled to watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities. He truly loved being an active part of his family's lives. Tilden is survived by his children: Pam (Brad) Carlson, and David (Polly) Spilde, grandchildren: Krista (Jeremy) Cebula, Ryan (Paula) Carlson, Kayla (Nate) Meyer, and Brett Carlson, great-grandchildren: Isabelle and Hudson Cebula, sister Joydis (Lee) Folland, brother Lorne (Julie) Spilde, and countless other family and friends. Tilden is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, and parents Leonard and Helen. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Eidsvold Lutheran Church at Halma. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The family of Tilden wishes to thank their friends and relatives for the outpouring of love and support as they mourn the loss of "T". He will forever be remembered for his warm heart, gracious demeanor, and endless passion for his family and friends.
