Sharon Mae Curry, a woman of extraordinary kindness, strength, and love, passed away on November 24, 2024. Her passing marks the end of a long and challenging journey with dementia, often described as "the long goodbye." Through this journey, Sharon's daughters displayed unwavering devotion and deep love, standing by her side with grace and resilience. They endured the profound heartbreak of watching their mother, their guiding light and source of warmth, gradually fade away. Yet, they cherished every fleeting moment, ensuring Sharon was always surrounded by the same care and nurturing love she had so selflessly given to others. Their journey is a testament to the unbreakable bond they shared, reflecting the enduring legacy of love, strength, and resilience that Sharon lived and passed on to them.

Born on May 8, 1951, to Leo and Maude Burke, Sharon lived a life defined by selflessness, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to her family, community, and the countless friends of her daughters. She opened her heart and home to all, offering a warm, nurturing, and loving environment to those who needed it most. Affectionately known as "Mama Sharon," she became a second mother to many, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who was blessed to know her.

Sharon was known for her dependability and unmatched work ethic. Clocks in her home were always set 15 minutes early, reflecting her belief that being late was unacceptable, being on time meant being prepared, and arriving early showed respect and readiness. She led by example, instilling the values of punctuality and reliability in those around her.

A graduate of Drayton High School in Drayton, ND, Sharon married her high school sweetheart Raymond, the love of her life, and together they built a foundation of love and laughter. After Raymond's untimely passing, Sharon faced the immense challenge of raising their two daughters alone. Yet, she created a home brimming with warmth and joy, embodying the love of both parents. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Raymond's passing, and her daughters find solace in the thought of Sharon and Raymond dancing together once more in "Radio Land," a phrase that will forever symbolize their enduring love.

Sharon's generosity and nurturing spirit extended far beyond her family. After moving to Grand Forks, she pursued a degree in social work at the University of North Dakota, dedicating her life to helping others. Though she never worked in social work, her home became a haven for many, as Sharon opened her doors to those in need, offering her unconditional love, support, and the comfort of a warm meal. Known for her amazing sour cream cookies and freshly baked buns, Sharon's kitchen was a place where everyone felt welcome and got a bit chunky.

Her love for life was evident in the simple joys she embraced—sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, riding her bike, traveling with her daughters, and canning the fruits of her labor. Sharon was the heartbeat of every family gathering, never forgetting a birthday, and ensuring that everyone in her life felt special and deeply loved.

Sharon Mae Curry was more than a mother, grandmother, and friend; she was a beacon of light, a source of strength, and a symbol of unwavering love. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the memories she created, and the lessons she imparted about the power of kindness, hard work, and resilience.

Sharon is survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer Kaye Betz Curry (Christopher) and Brenna Lea Curry; five grandchildren—Cindy Morstad (Doug Soper), Josphine (Randy) Hilliard, Ashlynn, Wesley, and Taryn Betz, 32 foster grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, her brother Tom (Beverly) Burke, niece and nephews as well as her "special friend" Jim Hauck.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Raymond Curry; her parents, Leo and Maude Burke; her brother, Howard Burke, her sister, Geraldine Bares, and her nephew Joel Burke.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in Drayton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Austin Funeral Chapel, Drayton.
