Sharland Hoselton, 93, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at 1st Care
Health Center in Park River, North Dakota on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Sharland James Hoselton and his twin brother, Roland Charles, were born
December 14, 1923 to Wheeler and Edna (Devlin) Hoselton on the Garnett
farm west of Drayton. Sharland was the last surviving sibling in the
family. He was baptized and confirmed at Drayton Methodist Church and
had served as a trustee. Sharland attended Halfpenny and Bellamy
country schools and would walk a mile and a half to school if weather
permitted. On July 17, 1951 he married Anna Mae Pettis at Cavalier,
North Dakota. They settled near Drayton and farmed, raising wheat,
barley, hay and corn. They raised cattle, sheep, chickens and sold cream
and eggs to many customers for 40 years.
In the 1940's he worked in sugar beet fields and used horses to lift
the beets. He hauled beets for farmers and neighbors for 55 years and
also worked at Ferguson Truck Equipment in Drayton. Sharland served as a
director of the Federal Land Bank in Grand Forks for 40 years and was
also a past president.
He was a quiet man who enjoyed showing friends the John Deere mailbox he
made, dancing and playing baseball for the Northwesterners in the
1950's.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; children, Larry (Jackie) Hoselton,
Drayton, Vernon (Jan) Hoselton, Drayton, Alvin Hoselton, Drayton,
Charlotte (Paul) Klose, Hoople, ND and Bobby (Christen) Hoselton, Grand
Forks; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his daughter-in-law Sheila; his parents; sister Laura
McDermaid; brothers Arnold, Carl, Raymond, Harold, Floyd, and Roland;
and infant twin sisters.
Private funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2017 in
Austin Funeral Chapel, Drayton. Interment will be in Drayton City
Cemetery.
