Ruby Torgerson, 102, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks on Sunday, May 5th, 2013. Ruby E. Anderson was born on the family farm near Middle River, Minnesota December 18, 1910 to Albin and Ella (Ostenberg) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of First Lutheran Church. Ruby graduated from Middle River High School in 1928 and went on to attend Bemidji State Teachers College. She taught at Prairie View School in District 134 near Stephen and boarded with Alfred and Molly Hvidsten. On June 2, 1934 she married Erling Torgerson. They farmed east of Stephen for over 40 years. Erling passed away in 1990. Ruby was very active in her church and community. She belonged to the Ladies Aid, Church Circle, Homemakers Club and the Prairie View School Board. Ruby was an avid sports fan, following local high school teams, the Minnesota Vikings and of course, the Minnesota Twins. She also painted, played golf, enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Winfield) Johnson, Northfield, Minnesota and Phyllis (Lance) Gramlich, Sebastopol, California; three grandchildren, Sten, Britt and Ilse; three great grandchildren, Nina, Carlos and Eva; and a brother, Floyd (LaVonne) Anderson, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo and sisters, Nettie, Mabel, Pearl and Marian. Services for Ruby are scheduled for Friday, May 10th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church at Stephen. Interment will be in Stephen City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding, Vicki Wangberg, soloist and Renee Jensen, organist. Casket bearers will be Vicki Wangberg, Bob Anderson, Julie Olson, Karla Anderson, Tom Anderson and Don Carl.
