Roger Peterson, 79, of Lancaster, Minnesota passed away Tuesday evening, October 14, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Roger Ronald Peterson was born in Richardville Township of Kittson County on August 31, 1935 to Ole and Edythe (Peterson) Peterson. He attended Mayflower country school in Richardville Township and received his GED in 1970. On October 10, 1953 he married Ruby Kleven at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock. They just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. The couple settled on the farm where Roger grew up and raised their family there. Roger worked as a foreman for the Soo Line Railroad 32 years. He farmed as well and retired from the railroad in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and country music. Roger was baptized and confirmed in Sion Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; their children, Roxanne (Marc Connelly) Berberich, Karlstad, Renee (Gary) Johnson, Hallock, Royce (Lorelei) Peterson, Lancaster and Rodney (Mary Hedlund) Peterson, Thief River Falls, MN; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Betty) Peterson, Newfolden, MN and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Joyce, Hazel and Audrey; and a brother, Harvey. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Dianne Rice, organist. Casket bearers will be Roger's grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Hallock on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
