Roberta Rae (Newans) Van Camp, 83, of Drayton passed away at her home Monday, February 18, 2013. Roberta was born July 28, 1929 to Robert Thomas Newans and Mary (Rundtum) Newans, in Drayton, ND. Roberta grew up there and graduated from Drayton Public School in 1947. While attending high school she met Raymond Lyle Van Camp. They were married in Moorhead, MN on October 13, 1947. They had four children, Mary Kathryn (Art) Reed Carpinteria, CA, Michael Raymond (RaeAnne) Grand Forks ND, John Wesley (Patti) Bemidji, MN, Lyle Thomas (Lesa) Drayton, ND. Roberta was a homemaker, a life long member of the Drayton United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible school, and was a very active in United Methodist Women. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting, and antiquing and was an avid reader. Roberta was the founding publisher of Valley News and Views and Publisher Emeritus. Roberta is survived by her husband Raymond and their four children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellis Brosseau, and grandson Jeff Steenerson. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. in the Drayton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Rev. Gary Johnson, presiding. Special music provided by Shirley Van Camp, soloist and Karen Schumacher, organist. Honorary casket bearers will be Roberta's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Drayton on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Drayton Volunteer Ambulance and Drayton United Methodist Church.
