Obituary

Robert MacDonald, 85, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Friday, November 6, 2015. Robert Dean MacDonald was born to Donald J. "Dan" and Belva (Higdon) MacDonald on May 13, 1930 in Crystal, North Dakota. He grew up and was educated there. He entered the Air Force at age 17 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed on the east coast, opening up Air Bases that had been closed after WWII. He was then trained as an airplane mechanic and worked on various bases. After leaving the Air Force he worked on a ranch in Wyoming and did custom combining throughout the south. He returned to North Dakota and went to Wahpeton State School of Science for a degree in auto mechanics. He worked in Grafton and finally settled in Drayton as a mechanic at Everson's, D & S, finally purchasing the business and calling it Central Auto Service. He married Daryle Davidson Curry on June 21, 1966. They resided in Drayton. Robert is survived by his wife, Daryle, Grafton; stepdaughter, Beverly Dolan, Grafton; stepson, LeRoy (Colleen Domier) Curry, Fargo; seven grandchildren, David (Diane) Dolan, West Fargo, ND, Chris (Tracy) Dolan, Crystal, MN, Stephen Dolan, Seattle, WA, Katherine (Richard) Marriott, Beley Heath, England, Sarah Dolan, Fargo, Jennifer (Chris) Betz, Inkster, ND and Brenna (Jeff Alldread) Curry, Grand Forks, ND; five great grandchildren; a brother, Willard "Dale" MacDonald, Brooklyn Center, MN; sisters-in-law, Rose Frederickson, Betty Sulland, Clara Mae Robb, Joan (Floyd) Morey and Joyce (Bob) Davey; brothers-in-law, David (Evelyn) Davidson and John (Rose) Davidson; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Raymond Curry; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine (Ralph) Peterson, Donna (Arnold) Christianson and Jean (Harry) Mason. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Austin Funeral Chapel, Drayton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Deacon Mike Grzadzielewski, presiding. Karen Schumacher, organist and Shirley VanCamp, soloist. Casket bearers will be Chris Dolan, Stephen Dolan, Christopher Betz, Wes Betz, Tyler Dolan and Jeff Alldread. Military honors will be accorded by the Drayton American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard.
