Richard Steenerson, 78, of Grand Forks and formerly of Bowesmont and Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Altru Hospital on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Richard Gordon Steenerson was born June 3, 1937 in Fertile, Minnesota the son of Alvin and Elsie (Leeberg) Steenerson. He was baptized on June 19th, 1937. Richard moved to Bowesmont, North Dakota as a child and attended school there. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps October 29, 1958 and served until October 28, 1961. On January 4, 1964 he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Marciniak in Grand Forks. Richard began working for BNSF Railroad June 1, 1962 and retired from there on June 1, 2002. Ruth Ann passed away on June 5, 2008. Richard is survived by two daughters, Lea Miller, Sioux City, IA and Ellen Nelson, Drayton; a son, John Steenerson, Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren; Jordon (Jennifer) Patterson, Drayton, Brandon (BreAnn) Patterson, Drayton, Anthony Patterson, Ft. Collins, CO, Tiffany Patterson, Drayton and Whitney Dean, Sioux City, IA; great grandchildren, Kaeden, Chase, Trypp, Hope and Shawn; two brothers, Donald (Kathy) Steenerson, Grafton and Michael (Carol) Steenerson, Pembina; his mother-in-law, Ellen Marciniak, Grand Forks; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Steenerson, Drayton and Barbara Steenerson, Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Ann; and brothers, Roger and Marlin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 26th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Edward's Catholic Church, Drayton. Interment will be in St. Edward's Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Okogba, presiding; Amber Brown, soloist and Shirley VanCamp, organist. Honorary casket bearers will be Richard's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Drayton on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp, presiding.
