Orpha M. Holmgren, 97, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Orpha Harper was born December 7, 1916 at Windom, Minnesota to Manley and Tora (Anderson) Harper. She moved with her family to Kittson County as a child and attended local schools. On December 3, 1938 she married Vendell Holmgren at the Lutheran parsonage in Hallock. The couple lived in Richardville Township before moving to Hallock. Vendell was the Register of Deeds for 35 years in Kittson County and Orpha worked in his office as a Deputy Registrar until their retirement. Orpha was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling, golf and their many winter trips to Texas. Vendell died on June 5, 2013. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Orpha was preceded in death by Vendell; a daughter, Phyllis Kay Holmgren who died on May 7, 1976; a son, Larry who died on February 15, 2006; and two sisters, Mildred Stanislowski and Avis Reese. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service.
