Obituary

Nancy Benson, 72, of Ft. Worth, Texas, died unexpectedly on August 19, 2019 in her home.

Nancy Diane Benson was born on July 7, 1947 in Warren, Minnesota, to Earl and Barbara Benson of Stephen, Minnesota.  She grew up with three  sisters and a brother in Stephen, was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, and graduated from the Stephen Public Schools in 1965.  She always knew she wanted to be a nurse and, in 1969, she graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation she worked in different areas of nursing before deciding to follow her calling to be a midwife.  She attended post graduate training in midwifery in KY before joining the first graduating class for a Masters of Science in Midwifery at Columbia University, New York.  She lived and worked in many states including FL, TX, KY, NY, PA and SC.

With a passion for people and nursing, Nancy made many friends throughout her career and touched the lives of hundreds of people.  A natural caregiver, she focused on making life easier for others in any way she could whether they were patients, coworkers, neighbors, or strangers.  She loved cooking, traveling, and surprising people with good deeds.

She moved to Ft. Worth, TX after she retired for what became her last caretaking role: providing companionship and support for her 100 year old mother in Ft. Worth.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Benson.  Surviving family members include her mother, Barbara Benson, Ft. Worth, TX; sisters Jan Lawson, Blanchard, OK;  Erma (Gordon) Roesch, Olathe, KS;  Cathy (Paul) Neuman,  Fergus Falls, MN;  brother Mike (Merrali) Benson, Eden Prairie,  MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at the Stephen Cemetery with a private family graveside service.

Blessed be the memory of Nancy Benson whose caring and compassion left this world a better place.
