Marie Margaret
Lindstrom
Jul 29, 1939 — Apr 17, 2025
Lake Bronson
Marie Margaret Lindstrom, 85, of Lake Bronson, MN, passed away Thursday, April 17 in Hallock.
Marie was born July 29, 1939, to William and Lena (Safriuk) Weleski, and raised in Caribou Township. After graduating from Lancaster High School, she worked at Northwestern State Bank in Hallock, then moved to Minneapolis and began working as a bookkeeper.
On September 24, 1960, she married Virgil Lindstrom in Lake Bronson, and they began their life together in the Twin Cities metro area, first living in Minneapolis, eventually buying a house in Mounds View. They adopted two children, Brent and Leanna.
After growing tired of city life, the desire to move back to Kittson County grew strong. Feeling that farming was their calling, Virgil and Marie bought the old Hemmingson Farm east of Lake Bronson in March 1972, where they raised their children, and where they lived and farmed for the rest of their lives (over 50 years).
Marie was very committed to her community and was involved in many local organizations, most recently the Lake Bronson American Legion Auxiliary and Zion Lutheran Church. She served as treasurer for many years on the board of St Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Caribou, MN. Marie was best known for her Ukrainian eggs, and completed a fresh batch this year before Easter. She certainly left a legacy of beautiful Ukrainian art and tradition, and will always be remembered for it.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil; brothers, George and Claus Weleski; sister, Verna; infant sibling Weleski; and son-in-law, Carl Sandahl. She is survived by her son, Brent (Connie) Lindstrom of Hallock; daughter, Leanna Sandahl of Thief River Falls; grandsons, Tanner Lindstrom, Tyler Lindstrom, and Carl Sandahl, Jr.; step-grandson, Andy Schulz; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Bronson, Rev. Galen Nordin presiding, with Corinne Jacobson as organist and Galen Nordin and Eden Johnson as soloists. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Tanner Lindstrom, Tyler Lindstrom, Carl Sandahl, Jr., Cory Gardner, Al Johnson, and Bruce Weleski.
