Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth ("Peggy") Sanner passed through the door to eternal life November 26, 2014 from the University of Minnesota Hospital, Minneapolis. She was born February 19, 1929 in Hallock, MN to Marie & Robert Hunter, Orleans, MN. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1947. She married Floyd Sanner on April 17, 1948. Their 66 years of marriage were filled with love and partnership. Peggy & Floyd were committed to each other and their family and community throughout those 66 years. Peggy was also a committed partner in the family operated grocery and general store - Sanner's Store in Lancaster, MN for 36 years. It was important to Peggy and Floyd that family learned and practiced traditional Scandinavian culinary experiences like potato dumplings, rice pudding and lutefisk. And we can't forget to mention her famous "honey jumbos" and "Grandma's Relish". She was eager to share the "how to" on these dishes for her children and grandchildren. You could always count on Peggy to let you know what was on her mind and in her heart. Peggy was an avid Minnesota sports fan with a special spot in her heart for the MN Twins and MN Timberwolves; rarely missing to watch or listen to a game. Peggy & Floyd often talked about living in the greatest neighborhood in the world! Peggy loved helping others. She was involved in her church (Sion Lutheran), in Legion Auxiliary and she and Floyd worked tirelessly to honor veterans on Memorial Day and in the passing of any community veteran by organizing the Colors and Rifle Salute. She was a founding member of COLEG. She loved playing cards and anyone who played with her will remember those games fondly. Friends were always welcome at Peggy & Floyd's house and few left without a jar of her homemade jelly. Peggy is survived by her husband, Floyd, and 4 children: Susan & Bob Christenson, Mary Jo & Lon Jerome, John & Juli Sanner, and Bill and Carol Sanner as well as 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; a half brother, Charles Hunter; brother-in-law, Glenn (Harriet) Sanner; sisters-in-law, Muriel (Dennis) Keil and Carol Turner; many aunts, uncles & cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Helen Hunter, her sister, Eleanor & husband, Orielle Norland She will be greatly missed by her family and the Lancaster community.
