Mabel Koser, 95, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away at Lutheran Sunset
Home in Grafton, North Dakota on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.
Mable
Alice Hansen was born May 23, 1922 at her Sinnot Township home to Jens
and Christine (Jensen) Hansen. She was baptized at St. Petri Lutheran
Church. Mabel attended Whalen School District #97 and in 1943 attended
the New York Hair Dressing Academy in Fargo, North Dakota with her
sister, Ruth. After working their apprentice years in Ada and Roseau,
Ruth and Mabel bought the beauty shop in Stephen, which they operated
together for 54 years. Always dressed professionally in white
uniforms, the sisters started their business with shampoo and sets for
75 cents. In 1975 the sisters added a craft and hobby portion to their
shop. In 1958 Mabel married Delbert Koser at First Lutheran Church in
Stephen.
Mabel was active in Stephen, always spotted on the golf course
and the curling club. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary,
serving as rehabilitation chairman for many years. One of her special
projects was creating blankets for the Fargo Veteran's Hospital. She
was an active member of First Lutheran and will be remembered for her
hospitality during circle bible study and her talents creating quilts
for Lutheran World Relief. Mabel's gardens were always beautiful and she
shared her talents with the community flower beds throughout Stephen.
She traveled the world, visiting places such as Communist Berlin,
Scandinavia and bus tours throughout the United States.
Mabel was
preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; parents, Jens and Christine;
sisters, Ruth and Sarah; and brothers, Kenneth and Clifford. Special
thanks to Tamarac Senior Center in Stephen and Lutheran Sunset Home in
Grafton for their care during her final years.
