Obituary

Louise Docken, 89, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Louise Elaine was born December 14, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Thiefault) Gooselaw in Pembina ND.  She grew up and attended grade school in St. Vincent MN and graduated from Pembina High School.  She then worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Maynard Docken on January 12, 1953.

Louise held many jobs in her lifetime. She worked as a nurses aid at the nursing home in Hallock, as a cook at the school in Kennedy and as a seamstress at Arctic Cat. Her most important job though was being a mom raising her nine children.

After her marriage she and Maynard lived in Humboldt MN. Louise and Maynard relocated many times during their lifetime as Maynard managed seed elevators in Nekoma ND, McCanna ND, Robbin MN and Kennedy MN. They spent their retirement years in Hallock MN.

Louise was known as the "bun lady" around Kennedy. She would get orders for her delicious buns for graduation and wedding receptions. Louise had a natural talent in the kitchen, she could whip up anything in a matter of minutes. A few of her children and grandchildren inherited that trait. She loved to go shopping in Thief River and Grand Forks and then stop at a Chinese restaurant before heading home.  In later years, Bingo was the highlight of her week.  Louise could visit with anyone and always had a contagious smile on her face.

Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Maynard Docken, her parents Frank and Cecelia Gooselaw and brothers Micheal and Palmer Gooselaw.

Louise is survived by her children Patrice (Dale) Wavra, Shelly (Denis) Dorion, Mary (Kelly) LeTexier, Marlene (Kevin) Riley, Margaret Williams, Laura Docken, Michael (Trisha) Docken, Teresa (Dean) Halvorson, Christopher Docken, 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and her sister Marie Longfors.
