Lorna McFarland, 78, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at her home on Saturday evening, June 30, 2018.

Lorna Darleen Soderfelt was born March 23, 1940 in Teien Township of Kittson County, Minnesota to Eric and Ida (Roswell) Soderfelt.  Lorna attended school in Drayton graduating in 1958.  She went on to attend Mayville State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in elementary education.  She taught 3rd grade in Stephen, Minnesota for two years.  On June 19, 1959 she was united in marriage to Dennis Robert McFarland at Teien Covenant Church.  Lorna and Dennis farmed west of Drayton.  Dennis passed away in 1996.   Lorna was an active lifelong member of Teien Covenant Church and was a big supporter of Bluewater Covenant Bible Camp.    She also helped establish and organize The Rock and the student mentoring program.  Lorna took great pride in her homes and yard. Her gardens were a joy to her and enjoyed by many. She was an excellent cook who not only supplied numerous yummy lunches to her family in the field but was also known to organize fabulous family and friend gatherings. She was also known for her style and keen eye for design and decorating.

Lorna is survived by her children, Melanie Joy McFarland and "Widget", Red Lake Falls, MN, Crystal Dee (Todd) Beckman, Sioux Falls, SD, Shaun Robert (Melissa Niemela) McFarland, Willmar, MN and Tyler Loren Eric (Christie) McFarland, Drayton; eight grandchildren, Cody, Ellie, Montanna, Mollie, Reilly, Asher, Savannah and Hudson; and a sister-in-law, Joyce McFarland, Drayton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Robert; parents, Eric and Ida; brother, Kenneth and sisters, Thelma, Lila and LaVonne.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Teien Covenant Church, rural Drayton. Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel in Drayton of Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp, presiding; Betty Dahl, organist. Mark Tungseth and Jane Uggerud, soloists.  Casket bearers will be Ryan Weinlaeder, Jeremy Pollestad, Kenny Elliott, Michael Larson, Cary Engelbrektson and Daniel Erickson.  Honorary casket bearers will be family and friends.
