Obituary

Lillian Verna Koop, 83, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Lillian was born May 23, 1931 at rural Plummer, Minnesota and was the 10th child of 11 children born to John and Emmy (Hansen) Jorgensen. Lillian married Wilbur Koop December 20, 1948 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. In 1959, Wilbur and Lillian with five of their children moved to Hallock where they purchased Streed Electric, renaming it Hallock Electric and several years later purchased the Diamond Motel, changing the name to the Valley Motel. Lillian managed the motel for over 47 years, was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Homemakers, Crookston Knitting Club, Hallock Bowling League and board member of the Hallock Eagles Auxiliary. Lillian enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, knitting for her children and those in need. She even knit a purple dress for her mother-in-law for her 90th birthday. Most of all, Lillian loved raising her children, spending time at the lake, traveling in their 5th wheel camper, time with family and friends and just being Mom. Wilbur and Lillian were married for over 65 years. She is survived by her husband, Wilbur; sons, Gary (Elaine), Hallock, MN, Wayne (Holly), Park Rapids, MN, Rodney (Karen), Dalton, GA, Paul (Jamie Sue), North Pole, AK and David (Kim), St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Jean (Clayton) Sjostrand, Lake Bronson, MN, J'nell (Jerry) Amundson, Alexandria, MN and Jandy (Robert) Quade, Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Marcy (JT) Anderson, Travis, Trevor and Garrett Koop, Misti, Casey Koop and Brittany (Ben) Stover, Taylor (Jenna), Whitney (Kirsten) Sjostrand, Jenna (Jake) Skifstad, Anthony (Liz) Amundson, Haley (Ryan) Klemcke, Dallas (Cathy) Koop, Danielle (Josh) Putman, Dayton, Matthew (Fernanda), Staci, Stephanie, Michael and Amos Koop, Rhonda Quade, Corey, Cameron, K'lynn and Carter Koop; great grandchildren, Kinley, Levi, Brody, Sydney, Isabel, Henry, Gustin, Toby, Meg, Troy, Ellie, Everly, Natalie, Sabastian, Oliver, Yarden, Isaiah, Sean and Leon; a sister, Myrtle Rieman, Vancouver, WA and a brother, Frederick Jorgensen, Plummer, MN; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rosie, Celia and Minnie; brothers, Earl, Willie, Kenneth, John Jr. and Raymond. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Union Liberty Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Frank Johnson, presiding; Misti Koop, soloist and Renee Wahl, organist. Honorary casket bearers will be Lillian's grandchildren and the Eagles Auxiliary.
