Leatrice Field, of Stephen, MN passed away on October 28, 2026 in Warren, MN at the nursing home.
Leatrice Joy Larson was born June 13, 1927 to Edgar Rudolph Larson and Laura Melo Larson in Argyle with the help of a midwife. Leatrice graduated from Stephen High School in 1944 and worked at the Farmer’s State Bank in Stephen until 1946 when she married, and then worked at Krokie’s Hardware. She married Charles W. Field September 15, 1946 and they began their married life on a farm outside of Stephen. Along with being a housewife and mother, Lea worked as a bookkeeper for Royal Neighbor’s Insurance from 1950-1979. Lea worked as an Avon Representative as well, for over 10 years and earned many awards for her outstanding sales. She taught Sunday School in the First Presbyterian Church in Stephen for more than 25 years and was a Sunday School Superintendent for 2 years. Leatrice was also active in Church Circles and served as President of the Monday Study Club. When the First Presbyterian Church in Stephen dissolved, Lea and her husband attended the Presbyterian Church in Argyle regularly, as well as the First Lutheran Church in Stephen.
One of the most special attributes about Lea was that she played and worked along side her husband from the beginning of their married life to the end. Whether it required that she worked in the fields, at the beet weigh station, or serve hundreds of meals to hired men, she was there. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t bake or cook up on a minute’s notice, and her spotless home was always open to anyone at anytime. In Lea’s spare time she and her husband could be seen bowling, golfing and bridging. She started bowling in 1958, golfed for over 40 years, and was an avid bridge player for many years. Lea also loved making quilts and her enthusiasm for the craft was admirable. In addition to the beautiful quilts she made for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends, she made hundreds of quilts for babies in need and gave them all away.
In the winter of 1988, she and her husband began wintering in AZ and were affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mesa. Chuck and Lea moved from their original farm home in 1979 to a home in town and left the farm to their son. In 2005, Chuck and Lea downsized to a smaller home, and just before losing the love of her life in 2015 after 69 years of marital bliss, they moved to the Tamarac Assisted Living home in Stephen.
In the last few years of her life, she was a bit handicapped, due to a shoulder injury and failing eyesight, which did not allow her to golf, make quilts or play bridge, but she walked the halls several times a day for her exercise. She wore a pedometer on her ankle to keep track of her steps, and usually walked 7000- 8500 steps daily. However, the last couple of years were extremely challenging for her.
Lea also enjoyed spending a few winters with her daughter Becky and family in FL. When Lea was in Stephen, her son Jeff visited with her daily, bringing in her mail, watching a favorite TV show, making out the bills and just enjoying a little family time. Candice and Becky called daily as well, to stay in touch and keep her updated on the great-grandkids.
Lea is survived by her daughter Candice (Allen) Oman of Mesa, AZ, a daughter Rebecca (Gregory) Milakovic of Belle Isle, FL, a son Jeffrey Field (Joy Edgar) of Stephen and a sister-in-law Joyce (Bill) Schuele of Norfolk, Nebraska. Lea was the last one in her original family of 9 children to die.
Preceding her in death were her parents, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Virginia and Edward Locke, Anita and Hugh Whalen, and Shirley and Bill White, a sister Yvonne Overfield, and a brother Roger Larson, two brothers and sisters-in-law Russell and Guna Larson, Amos and Bonnie Larson, and an infant brother Cameron Larson.
Lea was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Jeremy Clow, Ryan Oman, Tiffany Dufault, Amber Allery, Gregory Milakovic, Phillip Milakovic, Alyce Milakovic, Krystina Milakovic, Nicole Ramon, and Krista East; and 24 great-grandchildren: Victoria Clow, Shevelle Clow, Turner Clow, Kace & Cameon Clow, Kyle Hrynyshyn, Chase Hrynyshyn, Kailyn Hrynyshyn, Alice Allery, Adam Allery, Addison Allery, Micah Oman, Jordan Oman, Hunter East, Millie East, Korbin East, Parker Milakovic, Charlie Milakovic Hunter Milakovic, and Hezekiah Milakovic, Luna Ramon and Nina Joy Ramon, and Niori and Nasi Milakovic.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:0 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Stephen with Rev. Brown presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Stephen Cemetery next to her beloved husband Charles.
