Obituary

John Stanley Potrament, of Hallock, MN, passed away in Kittson Memorial Nursing Home on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

John was born to Stanley Vincent Potrament and Kristine Katherine (Wilhardt) Potrament on January 24, 1947. They lived in Lancaster, MN. When he was 14 in the summer of 1962, John started working at Glidden's farm, rural Hallock, where he worked for the following three summers.

John met Marty in 1962, when her family moved to Lancaster, and in 1966, they were married at her parents' home. That year, they moved to Minneapolis, where he worked at Brown and Bigalow full-time and Laurie Gas Station part-time. He then moved on to work at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange.

In July of 1966, he moved his family back to Lancaster so he could help out on the farm for six months while his father recovered from a major surgery. During this same time, he also worked at Motorcoach Industries in Pembina, ND. They moved back to Minneapolis in January 1967, where he worked at World Tool. He later worked for John A Dalsin Flat Roofing and finally for the Standard Oil Warehouse, before moving back to Kittson County in February of 1971. He began working for Farmer's Union Oil in Lake Bronson until he was hired as the head custodian at the Humboldt school in June of 1971. In February 1976, he got hired at the Kittson County Courthouse in Hallock. Later that year in October, they bought a house in Hallock and have lived there since John retired from the courthouse in July 2004.

For many years, he enjoyed golf league and pool league. He also enjoyed sports. Watching his children and grandchildren play sports brought him so much joy. He loved to play cards, shake dice, and go to the casino. He was one of a kind.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father and his daughter, Kim Lathrop.

He is survived by his wife, Marty; children, John Jr (Sandy) Potrament, Chris (Julie) Potrament, Melissa (Brad) Braun; brother, Rick (Natalie) Potrament; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
