John Dennis Carpenter, 85, of Hallock, MN, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2018 at Kittson Healthcare Nursing Home.
J ohn was born in Stephen, MN on February 17, 1933. He graduated from Stephen High School in 1952. Thereafter he served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. John was married to Peggy Eileen (Pudil) on December 22, 1957; they were married 61 years. John's banking career spanned over 40 years and led him to Grafton ND, Luverne, MN, Slayton, MN, Hay Springs, NE and finally to Hallock, MN. He enjoyed his family and friends, snowmobiling, hunting deer and turkeys, fishing, camping, farming, Ford vehicles, and traveling. He was a quiet man with a strong faith. Throughout the years he was also actively involved in various church, community and banking organizations as well as the American Legion.
John is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter, Denise (Jon), sons Scott, and Dan (Karen), grandchildren, Gwendolyn (Kevin), Bethany (Shawn), Dana (Jordan), Jesse, Jack, Amber (Matt), Kileigh, Brittany, Nikolas (Erika), Kampton, great grandchildren, Mahren, Kinzie, Myla, Gavin, Henrik, Blair, Reese, Jackson, Hudson, Kamryn & Asher, sisters, Phyllis, Harriet (Lloyd) and Ann (Tom), sister-in-law, Melanie, brother-in-law Wesley, sister-in-law Faye (Dave), nieces & nephews and other family and friends. John is preceded in death by his father, Oscar, mother, Ingrid (Nelson), sisters, Shirley and Ardyce, brothers Allen and Robert, brothers-in-laws Chuck & Bob, and son-in-law Mark.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, MN. Reverend Frank Johnson will be officiating; Dana Lofstrom, soloist; Renee Wahl, organist. Casket bearers will be John's grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be Lloyd Rigg, Thomas Walski, Wesley Pudil, Dave Von Holten, Charles Anderson, Merle Shuck, Robert Cameron, family and friends. Military honors will be accorded by the Minnesota National Guard and the Hallock American Legion, Brian Pastir, taps. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church.
