On May 25, 2014 in Grand Forks, ND, Joan T. Schumacher, age 71 was called home by her Lord and Savior. Joan was born January 7, 1943 in Warsaw, ND, the daughter of Irene and Earl Lizakowski. In her early years she attended school at the Warsaw Convent. Later she attended schools in Thief River Falls, MN and Grafton, ND. Joan was united in marriage to John Schumacher in Drayton, ND, on October 1, 1959. They made their home in Drayton where they farmed and raised their children John (Karen) Drayton, Jennifer (Rich) Deere, Kennedy, MN, Jeff (Michelle) Waynesville, NC, and Jeremy (Becky) Wichita, KS. Joan was an avid sports fan and loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and all their other activities. She was an excellent bowler and bridge player and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In later years, Joan and John wintered in Edinburg, TX where they made many new friends. Joan shared her love through her wonderful cooking and baking and will be remembered as a fun-loving person who cared deeply about her family, friends, and faith. Joan was preceded in death by her infant son Jason, her mother and father, her stepmother Jeanette (French) Lizakowski, sister Darlene Lizakowski, and her mother- and father-in-law Anna and Ervin Schumacher. Joan is survived by her husband John, her remaining children, and by eleven grandchildren: Joshua (Elisabeth),Mitchell (Kayla) and Trevor Deere, Erica (Derek) Bergstrom, Michael (Rebekah), Grant, Brandi, London, Kiana, Easton and Heather Schumacher; five great grandchildren: Olivia, Isaac, Lillia and Louie Deere, and Landon Maple; sisters Dolores (Merlyn) Grabanski, Grafton, and Shirley (Jon) Lamont, Fargo, ND, brothers Arnold (Barbara) and Roger (LeAnn), Bloomington, IL and four step brothers. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Drayton. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Rev. Bernhard Seter, presiding; Sheila Weinlaeder, organist; Michael Traynor, soloist and Karen Schumacher, accompanist. Casket bearers will be Joshua, Mitchell and Trevor Deere, Michael, Grant, Easton Schumacher, and Derek Bergstrom. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Chapel in Drayton on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
