Jean Pemberton, 101, of Hallock passed away on April 25, 2017, at the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home.

Jean was born on March 22, 1916 in Orleans, MN to John and Nellie Lang. She grew up in Orleans, attended high school in Lancaster where she graduated in 1932. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College graduating in 1934. She returned to Kittson County to teach.

On January 14, 1937 she married George Pemberton in Wiggins, Mississippi. They returned to Hallock. She raised four daughters. In 1955 she started to work as Deputy Clerk of Court and went on to become Kittson County Clerk of Court. She retired in 1980. She started working with oils and filled her home with paintings. She loved her bridge groups. A lifelong member of the Hallock Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School and participated in Circle. Reading the Bible was her goal and she read it more that fifty times and studied it closely.

Survivors include daughters Susan Pemberton (Ed Schneider) Minnetonka, MN and Joanie Farbo, Lancaster. Two granddaughters Elizabeth Uliana, Sacramento, CA and Susan Mann (Travis), San Clemente, CA, great granddaughter Katie Uliana, Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law, Gladys Lang; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband George Pemberton, (November, 1994), daughters Jane Pemberton-Cecchettini, (May 2015), and Beth Pemberton-Seewald, (March, 2016); parents, John and Nellie Lang; brother, Douglas; sisters, Lois Stenquist and Joan Clark.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Galen Nordin, presiding; Kristi Morrison, organist; Galen Nordin and Erik Finney, duet. Casket bearers will be John Stenquist, Chris Koland, Lee Pemberton, Jake Pemberton, Jim Strege and Jesse Strege.
