James "Jimmy" Swenson, 64, of Karlstad, Minnesota passed away at Karlstad Healthcare Center on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Jimmy was born October 26, 1949 at Hallock, Minnesota to Elmer and Lyla (Vilen) Swenson. Jimmy was a longtime resident at the REM Home in East Grand Forks and worked at the Polk County DAC for many years. Jimmy was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics and was known as the "Bocce King" on the North Dakota Special Olympics Bocce Team. He later moved to the Karibou Home in Karlstad and worked at the Lake Bronson DAC. He became a resident of Karlstad Healthcare Center one year ago. Jimmy is survived by his mother, Lyla; brothers, Lawrence Swenson, Eagle River Alaska, Thomas (Coreen) Swenson, Detroit Lakes, MN and Michael (Nancy) Swenson, Apple Valley, MN; a sister, Colleen (Mark) Gronseth; a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church of Breckenridge, Minnesota. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster, Minnesota on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Mark Gronseth, presiding; CoCo Gronseth, pianist; Mark Gronseth, organist. Casket bearers will be grandchildren of Lyla, Rick, Bryan and Chris Swenson, Philip and Lauren Swenson, Nick and Nate Gronseth.
