James "Jim" Gatheridge, 73, a lifelong Humboldt, Minnesota, resident, passed away on Monday, December 4th, 2023 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

James Donald Gatheridge was born April 7, 1950 to William I. and Irene (Laude) Gatheridge. He grew up on the family farm near Humboldt and was baptized and confirmed in the Humboldt United Methodist Church. Jim attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, Minnesota, and graduated from there in 1968. He went on to attend Moorhead State College. Jim married Paulette Carlson on June 13, 1970 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, Minnesota. They moved to Moorhead and lived in a 1950s pink trailer house while Jim attended the university. Jim and Paulette returned to Hallock and Jim worked at the Mileage for one year before settling on the family farm in St. Vincent Township of Kittson County. The couple farmed for many years until Jim retired due to failing health. He also worked at Baldwin Farms for over 30 years. Jim was the clerk of St. Vincent Township and had served in that position for 40+ years. He also served as treasurer of the Methodist Church.

Becoming a grandfather and great grandfather was one of his greatest joys. Family meant everything to Jim. That family includes his loving wife of 53 years, Paulette; daughters, Elizabeth (Dennis) Anderson, Lancaster, MN and LeAnna (Richard) Scott, Roland, Manitoba, Canada; grandchildren, Alyssa (Anthony) Askew, Cavalier, ND, Zachary (Vada) Gatheridge, Lake Bronson, MN, Madlyn Anderson, Grand Forks, ND, Kara Scott and Raymond Scott, both of Roland, Manitoba and Michael Phillips in Alberta, Canada; great grandchildren, Parker, Eli, Posy, Hudson and Hoyt; brothers, Bill (Verna) Gatheridge, Crookston, MN and Ron (Susan) Gatheridge, Humboldt; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held in the church for an hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock, MN.
