Milner Sugden, 84, a lifelong Hallock, Minnesota resident passed away at his home on Friday evening, December 7, 2018.

Hugh Milner Sugden Jr. was born in Hallock on August 14, 1934 to Hugh and Pearl (Nelson) Sugden.  He was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church and attended Hallock High School.  Milner began farming with his father in Hallock Township raising small grains and purebred dairy cattle.  On December 11, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley Schulte in Stephen, Minnesota.  The couple settled on the family farm after Milner's father passed away. He retired in 1996.  Milner was a solid sports fan, watching a little bit of everything.  He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey.  Milner loved growing things and his large garden and beautiful yard kept him busy all spring and summer.  He also enjoyed playing cribbage with the guys at the old Harvest States Elevator here in Hallock.

Family members include his wife of 67 years, Shirley; a daughter, Carrie (Ron) Doll, Sterling, ND; two sons, Randy Sugden, Steele, ND and Mike (Jodee) Sugden, Hallock; grandchildren, Brandon, Amy,  Amanda and Bradley Doll, Riley, Ben and Landon Sugden; nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy; his parents; and two sisters, Lola (Gordon) Vail and Connie (Tony) Carlson.

Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church at Hallock.  Interment will be held next spring in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with  a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Marge Landwehr, presiding; the Sanctuary Singers, Diane Younggren, organist, will provide special music.   Honorary pall bearers will be Milner's grandchildren.
