Helen Olson, 87, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Thursday morning, May 10th, 2012. Helen Lorraine (Myers) Olson was born November 8, 1924 to William Lloyd Myers and Lena (Oeffner) Myers Stroom on a farm near York in Benson County, North Dakota. Helen attended Independence School in York, ND. Upon graduation she attended communications school in Minneapolis, after which she worked for a while in Seattle, Washington. She returned to the area and worked as a typist for the Veterans' Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. There she met and fell in love with Marvel Olson and they were married in Fargo on September 24 of 1950. They were blessed with two sons, Lloyd in November of 1951 and Ron in May of 1954. The third child, Douglas Lee, was born and died on October 8, 1956. The Olsons moved to Grand Forks and from Grand Forks to Hallock in 1954, where they made their home and raised their family. Marvel passed away on October 12, 1986, of cancer. Helen was active in Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang with the Golden Age Singers and was active with the WELCA. In 2010, she joined Trinity Lutheran Church of Hallock, LCMC, where she served on the prayer chain. Helen loved her family and she loved Jesus. Her family gave her joy and her faith gave her strength and hope. She was very anxious to meet Jesus. Helen is survived by two sons, Dr. Lloyd (Carol) Olson, PhD., of Huntsville, AL and Ron Olson of Hallock; three grandchildren, Joshua (Mandy) Olson Vistavia, Hills, AL, Stephanie (Jon) Kingsford of Huntsville, AL and Aaron (April) Olson of Hueytown, AL; seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas, Matthew, Jake, Ally, Jordan, Bailey, and Remy; a brother, Harold Myers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvel; a son, Douglas Lee; a brother, Warren Myers and many aunts, uncles and cousins. May her memory be blessed! Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, May 14th, 2012 at 10:00 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery, Fargo. Pastor Amber Bergeron, presiding; Lyndon Johnson, organist. The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
