Obituary

Helen S. Lindgren, 97, Hallock, Minn., passed away peacefully on August 6, 2017 at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center. Helen was born on December 26, 1919 to Jacob and Christine Brosvik in Lancaster, Minn. She grew up on a farm east of town and was an only child.  At home she helped her mother with the housework and they enjoyed gardening and canning together.  Her mother taught her how to knit and crotchet.  Throughout high school Helen was very involved in the 4-H club, especially sewing and cooking.  Helen was also very active in the Lancaster Mission Church Sunday School.  She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1937 and then began working on the George Lindgren farm in South Red River where she met her future husband, Wilbur.  They were married on June 1, 1941 at Red River Lutheran Church and honeymooned in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1947 Wilbur and Helen took over the family farm when her father-in-law, George, retired.  Throughout their marriage Helen was always at Wilbur's side, supporting his every step, a wonderful "farmer's wife." She was there to help him with the many activities, be it livestock chores (milking the cows), operating farm equipment, including tractors, trucks or a combine during harvest time, and, of course, cooking for the hired men and harvest crews. During retirement they really enjoyed living in Hallock.  They made a few trips to visit their son, Richard and family in Florida, and spent a couple of winters in Arizona staying with Wilbur's sister and brother-in-law as well as a couple of trips to Texas and Las Vegas.  In August 2005 they entered Kittson Memorial Nursing Home.

During her entire life Helen was very involved in her community and church, including being an active member of the Red River Lutheran Church and Sunday School teacher, Red River Ladies Aid, South Red River Homemaker's Club, and a Worthy Matron and Lifetime Member of Eastern Star.  At home she enjoyed sewing and caring for her flower and vegetable gardens.

Helen is survived by her son, Richard Wayne (Irene) of Brevard, NC, four grandchildren: Richard Anthony Lindgren of Clermont, FL; Christina Anne Hickey (John) of Brevard, NC; Jessica Michele Combs (Michael) of Brevard, NC, and Bryce Robert Lindgren of Wichita, KS and seven great grandchildren: Elsa Danielle Lindgren, Alexandra Julia Hickey, Owen Patrick Hickey, Mary Grace Hickey, Madison Mae Combs, Mackenzie Kae Combs and Brylee Danielle Lindgren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Christine Brosvik, her husband, Wilbur and son, Bryce.
