Hazel
Wyman
Mar 29, 1924 — Nov 16, 2016
Hazel Wyman, 92, of North Oak, MN and formerly of Barre, MA and
Clearbrook, MN died on November 16 in North Oak, MN.
Hazel Redmon was born in Statesville, NC to William Parks Redmon and
Hulda (Swenson) Redmon. Her father was killed in a car accident when
she was about six years old so Hazel moved with her newly widowed mother
and two younger siblings back to northern Minnesota where her mother had
been raised. They bought 80 acres adjacent to the farm that Hazel's
grandfather homesteaded after emigrating from Sweden.
After graduating from Clearbrook High School, Hazel completed a business
training course in Bemidji, MN and worked for a few years in Minnesota
and Fargo, ND. She moved to Washington, DC where she worked as a
secretary for the U.S. government for 35 years and was active in the VFW
Auxiliary. She attended many national conventions and held the position
of President of the Washington, DC chapter.
Hazel married Charles Wyman at Oak Park Church in Clearbrook, MN in
August, 1959. Charles was an attorney for the State Department in
Washington, DC. Upon his retirement in 1983 they moved to Barre, MA,
Charles' hometown, where they had many cherished friends. Hazel served
as secretary to many local organizations and loved travel, history and
genealogy.
In 2011 as Hazel began to struggle with health issues she moved to North
Oak, MN to be nearer her sister Alice.
Hazel is preceded in death by her father, William Parks Redmon;
step-father, Arthur Holte; mother, Hulda (Swenson) Redmon Holte;
husband, Charles Wyman; and two nephews. She is survived by her brother
William Redmon of Seattle, WA; her sister Alice Qual of Austin, MN; four
nieces, six grandnieces and nephews, and a great-grandniece and a great
grand-nephew.
A private burial will be held at Oak Park Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN
alongside her beloved husband.
