Obituary

Harvey Odin Anderson age 80, of Drayton, North Dakota died Thursday, September, 19, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Harvey was born November 15, 1932 at Drayton, the son of Signe and Edwin (Person) Anderson. He married Lorna Jensen on May 26, 1956 at Skjeberg Lutheran Church, rural Drayton. Harvey attended rural school in Eagle Point Township of Marshall County. He graduated from Drayton High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November of 1957. He served at Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and in Germany. He was discharged in 1959. Harvey and Lorna made their home on the family farm in Eagle Point Township from 1959 until 1997 when they moved into Drayton. Harvey took great joy in being a lifelong farmer and passed that love on to both his son and grandson. He was the third generation to farm his family's original homestead. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association, and took pride in the various awards he won for his wheat seed production. He was a member of a local community bowling league along with some of his neighbors for nearly twenty years. Harvey served several terms on the church council in various capacities and was a member of Fleece Assembly of God in Drayton. Throughout their marriage, Harvey and Lorna enjoyed traveling to many places throughout the United States and Canada. Harvey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorna; a daughter, Rochelle Black, (Greg Alkofer), Grand Forks, ND; a son, Luther (Cheryl) Anderson, rural Stephen, MN; two grandchildren, Eric and Emily; a sister, Irene Anderson, Nampa, ID; brother, Walter (Wilma) Anderson, Nampa, ID; a sister-in-law, Aina Jane Anderson, Park River, ND and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clifford (Ann) Anderson and Chester Anderson. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Fleece Assembly of God Church, Drayton. Interment will be in Skjeberg Lutheran Cemetery, rural Drayton. Military honors will be accorded by the Drayton American Legion. Rev. Leroy Aufenkamp, presiding; Marlys Nelson, organist and Lindsey Culver, soloist. Casket bearers will be Lon Johnson, Craig Anderson, Larry Anderson, Kyle Jensen, Jay Michalski and Brian Anderson.Visitation will be at the church on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
