George R. Elhard, 93, of Drayton, North Dakota and formerly of Kulm, North Dakota, passed at his home on Wednesday evening, October 8, 2014. George Raymond Elhard was born on January 11, 1922, the son of Emanuel and Emelia (Kuhn) Elhard at Kulm. He grew up in Norden Township and was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church. On April 4, 1944 he married Kathryn Leno of Alfred, North Dakota. They made their home at Kulm where they farmed for a number of years. They moved to Clarksburg, California in 1956 where he worked on farms for two years. In 1958 he worked for Clarksburg School District as a custodian and bus driver. In 1959 he worked for Rhea Tractor and Engine Company in Sacramento, California. In 1961 he worked for Delta Dehydrating and American Sugar Company in Clarksburg. In 1965 George transferred to the new American Crystal Plant in Drayton. During these changes he was involved with local unions and was elected president of the union at American Crystal. He retired in 1984. In 1989 they moved to Tisdale Manor. His wife Kathryn died June 10, 2001 after being married for over 57 years. He is a member of Drayton Methodist Church. They spent the winters in Edinburg, Texas for many years. Family members include two sons, Gerald (Mary), Edinburg, TX and Milton (Dawn Lindstrom), Kennedy, MN; a daughter, Agnes (James) Kilgore of Littleton, CO; four grandchildren, Melina (Eli), Kelcie (Randall), Blake (Marla) and Brady; three great grandchildren, Nicolas, Isaac and Sophia; and a brother, Reuben Elhard, Kulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn; 2 daughters, Elaine and Ruth; a brother, Milton. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.in the Austin Funeral Chapel at Drayton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday for two hours prior to the funeral service. Rev. Gary Johnson, presiding; Shirley VanCamp and Karen Schumacher, duet. Interment will be in the Congregational Cemetery at Kulm, North Dakota on Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 at 12:00 p.m.
