Hallock
Fredrick John Glidden (86) of Hallock, Minnesota, passed away at the
Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Friday, September 14,
2018.
He was born on October 11, 1931, at Hallock to Fred and Edythe
(Nelson) Glidden. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian
Church. Fritz graduated from Hallock High School in 1949 and studied
carpentry at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, graduating in 1951. He
worked in California before entering the U.S. Army serving in the Korean
Conflict from 1952-1954 as a Forward Observer. In 1956 he worked in
Alaska for the U.S. Government. On Sept. 1, 1957, Fritz was united in
marriage to Janice Spangrud at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock. After
briefly living in Moorhead, Minnesota, they settled in Hallock.
Fritz was a skilled carpenter who helped build many homes in the
surrounding areas for more than 40 years. Measuring twice and cutting
once. He loved gardening, his dogs, hunting, fishing, traveling, and
spending many winters in warmer climates. He also loved southern gospel
music and collecting wildlife art. Fritz was a member of Grace Lutheran
Church and the American Legion Post 63 of Hallock.
Family members include his wife Janice; three sons, Rick of Minneapolis,
MN, Joe (NaDyne) of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Charles (Kim) of Fargo, ND;
one daughter, Jennifer (Nick) of Chanhassen, MN. Six grandchildren:
Megan and Thomas Glidden, Ian (Emma) and Ethan Glidden, and Boden and
Maren Johnson. Two nieces, Mardi (Jerry) Hicks of Albuquerque, NM and
MaryEllyne (Dave) Thornton of Ephrata, PA.
Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at
11:00 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment will be in
Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for
one hour prior to the service. Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding; Renee
Wahl, organist and Galen Nordin, soloist. Honorary pall bearers will be
Ernie Klegstad, Harris Johnson, Robert Anderson, Kirk Costin, Kerry
Costin and Kent Costin. Military honors will be accorded by the Hallock
American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard.
