Floyd Olson, 78, of Halma, Minnesota passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Thursday, September 7, 2017.  Floyd Allen Olson was born June 27, 1939 in Pelan Township east of Halma. He was the oldest son born to Allen and Dorothy (Bunker) Olson. Floyd was a 1957 graduate of Karlstad High School and played football, basketball, was a choir member and FFA president. Floyd attended Bemidji State University and North Dakota State University. He graduated with a master's degree in education and started teaching in Upsala, Minnesota. Floyd taught biology, chemistry and physics and became a career and guidance counselor at the same school.  On July 29, 1967  he was united in marriage to Judith Kopveiler at Frazee, Minnesota. Floyd was an active member of the Upsala community, serving on the fire department, ambulance squad, taught drivers education and was a firearms training instructor.  He was member of the church council, Lions Club and belonged to the Cedar Lake Gun Club. Floyd and Judith moved to the family farm near Halma in 1984. He taught full time at four different schools and finished his teaching career at Karlstad and Newfolden. He retired in 1998 after 37 years in teaching.  Floyd also farmed and raised beef cattle for many years and sold the farm to his son, Mark, after his retirement. Floyd enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

Family members include his wife, Judith; a son, Mark Olson, Karlstad; a daughter, Mary (Mike) Kruse, Burnsville, MN; a grandson, Mason Kruse; a brother, Bob Olson, Karlstad; sisters-in-law, Jillayne Olson, Fargo, Jeanne (Don) Wermager, Buffalo, MN, LaDonna Sjodin, Merrifield, MN and Linda Kennedy, Buffalo, MN; brothers-in-law, John (Sheila) Peterson, Amery, WI and Rick Kopveiler, Buffalo, MN; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Edith, sister, Annalee Peterson and a brother, Charles Olson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Karlstad Baptist Church. Interment will be in Karlstad City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and again for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Pastor Barry Durkee, presiding; Linda Anderson, pianist; Louise McFarlane and Inger Lise Kruse, soloists. Casket bearers will be Grant Bothum Jr., Tim Anderson, Tollef Olson, Don Wermager, Robert Olson and Glen Quanbeck.
