Evangeline "Vangie" Hess, 85, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away September 10th, 2015 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock. Evangeline Rosanna Lorenzen was born June 4, 1930 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Clyde and Elizabeth Lorenzen. She grew up in the Drayton area and attended school there. On August 12, 1947 she married Harvey Hess at Roseau. The couple settled in Wannaska. Harvey passed away in 2005. Vangie worked at Polaris Industries in Roseau, Minnesota for over 25 years. She also worked at the cafe, grocery store and post office in Wannaska. In retirement Vangie moved to Hallock in 1997 and worked at the Kennedy School as a para. Vangie was a member of the Hallock and Roseau Senior Centers, the Hallock and Roseau Eagles Auxiliary and was known in Hallock as the "Donut Lady". She is survived by six children; Richard (Mary) Hess, Aurora, MN, Jerald (Peggy) Hess, Hallock, MN, Linda Simmons, Middle River, MN, Connie Starren (Dwight Toft), Williams, MN, Peggy (Kent) Hanson, Thief River Falls, MN and Tom Hess, Warroad, MN; 13 grandchildren, Jaime, David, Tasha, Kendy, Lisa, Jason, Will, Brandi, Rebecca, Leah, Nathan, Naomi and Luke; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Ray) Wendlund, Crystal, MN, Jane (Herman) Barta, St. Thomas, Judy (Terry) Mattson, St. Thomas and Mary (Buzz) Burns, also of St. Thomas, ND; nieces nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Michael Starren; a son-in-law, Wayne Simmons and siblings Stephen, Delphine, William, Duane, Jerry, Doris, Shirley, Rose, Donald and Darlene. Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Austin Funeral Chapel, Hallock, MN. Interment will be in St. Edward's Cemetery, Drayton, ND. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the memorial service. Rev. Galen Nordin, presiding; Dale Billberg, soloist. Honorary casket bearers will be Evangeline's grandchildren.
