Ernest Bostad, 88, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, Minnesota on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Ernest Theodore Bostad was born October 31, 1924 at Baudette, Minnesota to Ole and Louise (Solberg) Bostad. Ernest's family moved from Baudette to the family farm at Drayton. He attended Teien Central and Willow Grove School for 8 years and graduated from Kennedy High School at Kennedy, Minnesota in 1942. Ernest entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged in 1948. On September 24, 1950 he married Donna Hanson at the Skjeberg Lutheran Church. Ernest worked on the Keine farm and later farmed with his brother, Leonard on the family farm. He also worked during the winter in Minneapolis and at American Crystal Company in Drayton. Ernest and Donna enjoyed trips to Europe, Alaska and Norway. They also spent 20 years wintering in Arizona. He was a member of Skjeberg Lutheran Church. Ernst will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Eileen, Curtis (Susan), Randall and Brian (Cheryl); nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Karey Grzadzieleski, Mathew Bostad, Michelle Lahren, Melissa Bostad, Mathew VanCamp, Mitchell VanCamp, Miranda Bostad, Brita Bostad, Kyra Bostad and Emily Grzadzieleski; a sister, Violet Nealis and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Evelyn, Mabel, Clifford and Leonard. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Skjeberg Lutheran Church, rural Drayton. Interment will be in the Skjeberg Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Quibell, presiding; Marlys Nelson, organist; Gwen and Rob Johnson, duet. Casket bearers will be Gary Bostad, Steve Lindgren, Sevrin Anderson, Jeff Anderson, Brian Lee and Matthew Nelson. Military honors will be accorded by the Drayton American Legion. Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Home in Drayton on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
