Eileen Jansen, 99, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at Karlstad Healthcare Center on Thursday evening, October 9, 2014. Eileen Ruth (Sorenson) Jansen was born September 14, 1915 to Oscar and Esther (Egstad) Sorenson at Cody Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was their only child and was the last of the original Sorenson cousins of that generation. At age 2 she and her parents moved to Kennedy, Minnesota and was baptized in the Lutheran church there. Her parents moved to various farms where Oscar worked. Eileen attended country school, Lancaster Public School for a year and a half and graduated from Hallock High School in 1932. Eileen was a very smart and skipped two grades. She was the last living member of her graduating class. After completing her education she styled hair for her friends, did babysitting and house cleaning. She married Lawerence Jansen at Crookston on May 12, 1934. She then became a farm wife who enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing, planting flowers, mowing lawn and taking care of the farm pets she so loved. Lawrence and Eileen had two daughters, Eleanor (Ron) Wallenberg of Warren and Donna Jackson of Hallock whom she lived with from October 2008 to the time of her passing. Eileen was the head of Hill Township Homemakers Club and gave the group many ideas on how to make things. She drove farm truck for 52 years on the Jansen Brothers farm. She also cared for six other family members until their passing, her husband Lawrence, who was blind and died in 1969, her parents; mother-in-law, sister-in-law and an uncle. After Lawrence passed away she worked as an aide at Hallock Hospital for a few years and continued to farm for next seven years until retirement. For the many awards she received for her flowers, canning, and sewing she displayed at the County Fair as well as her kindness and caring for others, she shall be rewarded in Heaven. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hallock. Eileen is survived by a daughter, Donna Jackson, Hallock; two grandsons, Brad Wallenberg, Edina, MN and Randy Jansen, Kennedy, MN; great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a daughter Eleanor who died on October 26, 2013. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church at Hallock. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Marge Landwehr, presiding; Rev. Don Woodford, eulogy; Kristi Morrison, organist. Honorary casket bearers will be Ralph Jansen, Jim Jansen, Roger Loer, Glen Winter, Dan Carriere and David Sorenson. Casket bearers will be Dan Younggren, Darryl Younggren, Erik Younggren, Iver Cleem, Bill Dykhuis and Mike Morrison.
