Obituary

Dorothy Orsund, 89, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center on Saturday, July 25th, 2015. Dorothy R. Peters was born September 8, 1925 at Grafton, North Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Rose (Schrank) Peters. She was baptized in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and grew up on the family farm in Walsh County, North Dakota. Dorothy attended country school, St. Andrews District #14, through the 8th grade. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1942. Dorothy enrolled at Mayville State College and received her teaching degree. She taught at Acton District #15 and Farmington District #51. On October 17, 1948 she married Lawrence Orsund at Grafton Lutheran Church. Lawrence and Dorothy moved to Kennedy in 1951. Dorothy worked at Kennedy Trading Company, was the first secretary at Maria Lutheran Church and worked at Kittson County Social Services for 18 years. Lawrence passed away on June 18, 2013. Dorothy was a member of Maria Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school. She was a volunteer for the Kittson County Unit of the American Cancer Society and served as it's treasurer for 15 years. On August 12th of 2004 Lawrence and Dorothy lost their son, Greg, to pancreatic cancer. Family members include sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Corey Grochowski and Steve Nyberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; son, Greg; and twin baby brothers. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment will be in the Kennedy City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Shirley VanCamp, organist, Ron Fossell and Dwight Nelson, soloists. Casket bearers will be Corey Grochowski, Steve Nyberg, Butch Fossell, Curtis Forfang, Roger Weinlaeder and Steve Blomquist.
