Dorothy Jean Ness, 95, of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away February 7, 2024 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks.

Dorothy was born December 21, 1928 the daughter of George and Madelyn (Kelly) Koons in Westhope, North Dakota. After graduating from Westhope High School, Dorothy went on to get her teaching certificate and taught in a one room school house at Davenport, North Dakota and later in Bottineau. On June 8, 1951 she was united in marriage to Francis D. Ness in Mohall, North Dakota. They settled in Mohall and later moved to the Noyes and St. Vincent, Minnesota area. After their children graduated from school, Dorothy began working at the St. Vincent Post Office. After retiring the couple traveled to Texas during the winter months and made many friends. Dorothy was an avid golfer and loved the game.

Family members include her children, Pam Anderson, East Grand Forks, Cheryl Cicha, Fargo, ND, Laurie Ness, Grand Forks, Jon (Kim) Ness, Devils Lake, ND and Dan (Dawn) Ness, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Katy (Randy) Storey, Teri Jo Litzinger, Chris (Kristin) Cicha, Chelsea (Kip) Anderson, Shelby Ness (Ryan Lang) and Mackenze (Garrett) Schemionek; great grandchildren, Kacey (Jake), Aaron (Kayla), Cooper, Aynslie, Austin, Kaleb, Jordyn, Keygen, Ridley, Calvin, Hayden and Tucker; three great great grandchildren, Ryker, Quinn and Jennifer; brothers, Dallas (Mike) Green River, WY and Donald (Pannee) Koons, Henderson, NV; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; a son, Mike; a granddaughter, Jennifer Sullivan and a son-in-law, Jerry Cicha; siblings, Edith Hillesland, Ellen Hoskins, Margaret Juve, Nola Almay and Sonny Koons.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 17th at 10:30 a.m. in Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. Interment will be in the St. Vincent Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.
