Dean Arthur Young, 87, passed away early on Easter Sunday April 16, 2017
at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, ND.
Dean was born on October 24, 1929 in rural Drayton, ND, the eldest son
of Arthur and Vera Young. He is survived by his sons Arthur of Grand
Forks and Douglas of Drayton, granddaughter Samantha of Grand Forks and
grandsons Jim (Melissa) of St. Thomas and Joe (Miranda) of East Grand
Forks, 8 great-grandchildren and sisters Doris Robinson of Grand Forks,
Ann Clark of Calgary, Canada and brother Jim (Kathy) Young of Solon,
Iowa.
As a young man Dean enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his cousins
and friends that were full of fun and adventure.
He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1947 and married Eulalie
Evans of Grafton, ND in 1952 and later in life married Joanne Frovarp of
Grand Forks and enjoyed the addition of Joanne's children and
grandchildren to the family.
He farmed at Bowesmont, ND until he retired in 1995 and was always
actively involved in his church and community. With his friend Richard
McConnell he established and maintained the Bowesmont Church memorial
grove. Service to the community was always extremely important to Dean.
He served on the boards of Midland Township, Pembina County Farm Bureau,
Drayton Grain and Oxcart Trails Historical Society of Drayton.
Dean enjoyed celebrating family occasions on the farm, hunting trips
with his sons and friends and traveling to visit family.
Memorial donations may be made to the Drayton Methodist Church, the
Drayton Senior Citizens center and the Oxcart Trails Historical Society
of Drayton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, April, 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
in Drayton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Bowesmont
Cemetery, Bowesmont, North Dakota. Pastor Carol Olson, presiding;
Shirley VanCamp, organist. Casket bearers will be Dean's grandsons and
great grandsons, Jim, Nicholas, Harrison, Jonathan, Joe and Zachary
Young. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Home in Drayton on
Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00.
