Obituary

Dale Klegstad, 77, of Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away at Karlstad Healthcare Center on Monday morning, October 19th, 2020.

Dale William Klegstad was born January 8, 1943 in Springdale Township of Kittson County to Henry and Ellen (Bronson) Klegstad.  He grew up in rural Halma, Minnesota and attended elementary school there.  Dale graduated from Karlstad High School in 1961. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served until his discharge in 1965. Dale returned to Halma and was united in marriage to Phyllis Erickson on November 6, 1965 at the Covenant Church in Lake Bronson. The couple lived in Halma, Thief River Falls, and Karlstad before settling in Lake Bronson, Minnesota.

Dale's employment over the years included Cenex, Falls Diesel, Eversons, Kapco, owner of Gambles, City Maintenance, and School Bus Driver before spending 17 years with the Kittson County Highway Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator, retiring in 2008.

Dale and Phyllis wintered in Arizona for several years and always drove down so they wouldn't miss a thing. Dale was very active in the community, serving as mayor and council member of Lake Bronson for several years, he was active in the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Honor Guard, Lions, Friends of the Park, Boy Scouts, church youth groups and working at Riverside Cemetery.  His hobbies included camping, gardening, playing cards and working on his old cars. Dale's grandchildren were a big part of his life and he enjoyed every minute spent with them.

Family members include his wife, Phyllis; sons, Brent Klegstad, Grand Forks, Jason (Amie) Klegstad, Lancaster, MN and Travis (Stacie) Klegstad, Thompson, ND; five grandchildren, Cole, Logan, Tyler, and Ashley (Alex) Bjerke and Andrew; three great grandchildren, Landon, Natalie and Theodore; brothers, Norman Klegstad, Karlstad, Gerald (Lucy) Klegstad, Karlstad, Leslie Kenneth (Idell) Klegstad, Halma, MN and Robert Klegstad, Alexandria, MN; and a sister, Elmae (Keith) Cummins, Karlstad. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Duane Klegstad and three sisters-in-law, Sharon, Diane and Sharon.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lake Bronson Community Covenant Church.  Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson. A public visitation will be held at the church on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Wesley Staie, presiding; Barb Staie, pianist and Galen Nordin, soloist. Military honors will be accorded by the Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion and the Minnesota National Guard.  Please follow CDC guidelines and wear a mask if you plan on attending.
