Obituary

Curtis Miller, 86, of Humboldt, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Thursday, April 17th, 2014. Curtis William Miller was born April 14, 1928 at Osceola, Wisconsin to Fred and Emma Miller. He attended school through the 8th grade in Nye, Wisconsin and graduated from Osceola High School. Curtis went on to attend college at River Falls, Wisconsin. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army and completed his military service in 1953. He and his brother, Ralph moved with their parents to Humboldt in 1949 and began farming there. On April 6, 1985 he was united in marriage to Dale Gunnarson Finney. Curtis enjoyed travel and had been through most of the United States and Canada as well as trips to Mexico, South America, Turkey, Egypt, Russia, China, Israel and Europe. Curtis and his brother, Ralph farmed together until 1990. Curtis retired in 1999. Despite several physical handicaps, Curtis carried on an active life. He served as mayor and council member of Humboldt for many years; served as president and board member of the Humboldt-St. Vincent Elevator and on the board of North Kittson Rural Water. Curtis had been a longtime member of Humboldt Methodist Church and later the Evangelical Free Church in Pembina. He is survived by two stepsons, John (Maureen) Finney, Humboldt, Dan (Deborah) Finney, Humboldt; two grandchildren, Kristen and Bryant; a sister, Dorothy Miller, Osceola, WI; several nieces and nephews including Frederick (Susan) Miller, Santa Clara, CA; sisters-in-law, Doris Metzler, Turlock CA, Joan Peterson, Luck, WI, Florence Swanson, Kennedy, MN and Louise Gunnarson, Lake Bronson; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Meidt, Punta Gorda, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dale; brothers, Carl and Ralph and sister, Ruby. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangelical Free Church at Pembina, ND. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Humboldt Methodist Church at Humboldt, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
