Corrinne C Chapman, age 94 of Grand Forks, formerly of Drayton ND, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the Valley Senior Living on Columbia surrounded by family.
Corrinne Chapman was born on March 22, 1931, to Roland and Daisy (Maxwell) Gaffney in Cavalier County. She grew up and attended schools in Milton and Cavalier. She was a stay-at-home mom with an occasional part time job as her children grew older. She worked summers for the ND DOT in Drayton during the construction of I-29, eventually becoming full-time as an equipment operator. She mowed ditches in the summer and plowed snow and sanded roads in the winter. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She crocheted over 200 helmet beanies that were sent to our deployed service members.
She was united in marriage to Ronald E Chapman on August 9,1949 at St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier ND. He passed away in 2017.
Corrinne was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Drayton where she was active in the choir and Altar Society. She loved to crochet, sing, and play Bingo, but most importantly she loved spending time with her family.
Corrinne is survived by her children, Richard (Donna) Pheonix, AZ, Thomas (June) Longmont, CO., Mary Jane (John) Smallbeck, Aneta, ND, Shelley (Kevin) Schuster, Minto, ND; grandchildren: Lisa Chapman, Kristi (Jamie) Ganssle, Jeremy Chapman, Ryan (Kelly) Chapman, Kari Chapman, Christopher (Mandy) Smallbeck, Carrie (Edward) Zimprich, Heather (James) Bullard, Kara (Taylor) Ausen, Trent (Kelly) Davis, Brandee (Dan) Zeal; 30 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Gene Gaffney, Detroit Lakes, MN, Bonnie Olson, Katy, TX, and Terry Dusek, Crookston, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Kerry Ann; siblings, Marguerite Walker, June Papenfuss, Dolores Johnson, Tom Gaffney, and Bro. Michael Gaffney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Drayton, ND. Visitation will be held in the church for an hour before the service. Interment will be in St. Brigid of Ireland Cemetery in Cavalier, ND.
