Mona Rae (Monie) Johnson, 89, of Burnsville, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Martin Luther Care Center, in Bloomington, Minnesota. Clarice Mona Rae Hvidsten was born May 6, 1925, on a farm near Stephen, Minnesota, to Anna and Nels Hvidsten. She attended country school until the 8th grade at which time her family moved to town. She attended Stephen High School until her graduation in 1943. Monie attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Business Education. She was a high school business teacher for several years and also loved music and sang for many weddings and organizations. On June 26, 1949, she married Robert C. (Bob, R.C.) Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Stephen. Bob and Monie's wedding was the first wedding in the new church. Monie was a devoted wife and mother and also greatly valued her church and community. She was an active member of the O.E.S. She served as Worthy Matron and other offices for over fifty years, Grand Officer of Minnesota, and was also appointed as a Grand Representative in Manitoba, Canada. She was honored to be part of the Grand Family of Minnesota one year and traveled the state of Minnesota as Grand Warder. Monie also was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Stephen (past president), a Homemakers' Club and Birthday Club member for over 50 years, and an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Stephen. She moved in 2007 to The Rivers Independent Senior Living in Burnsville, MN, and was a member of the Welcome Committee, Community Council, Red Hats Club and several bridge groups. Mona Rae (Monie) Johnson is survived by daughter Jerilyn (David) Wentzel of Pequot Lakes, MN, and grandchildren, Matthew (Shannon) Wentzel, Stacey (Jim) Moran, and Kari (Jeff) Hanson; daughter Patti (Gary) Williams of Prior Lake, MN, and grandchildren, Tiffany (Mike) Flesness and Meghan Williams (fiance: Tyler Rittmaster); seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, sister-in-law Kathryn Nimlos, and brother-in-law Norman Nimlos. Monie loved to spend time with her friends and family and also loved playing bridge and going dancing with her husband, Bob. She is loved very much by her family and friends and will be dearly missed. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Stephen, Minnesota. Interment will be in the Stephen City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding. Rene Jensen, organist and Ann Woinarowicz, soloist. Honorary casket bearers will be all Mona's friends. Casket bearers will be Matthew Wentzel, Mike Flesness, Tom Woinarowicz, Todd Bazey, Richard Bolduc, Tom Silewski, David Sunsdahl and Lee Bukowski.
