Cathy Bruggeman, 63, of Mentor, Minnesota passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Cathy Lou Simonson was born to Earl Simonson and Catherine (Windjue) Simonson in Devils Lake, ND on March 20, 1952. The family moved to Mentor, MN where Cathy was baptized in the name of our Father and later confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. She also attended Mentor Public School. It was in Mentor where Cathy met the love of her life, Keith Bruggeman. On January 13th, 1969 Cathy and Keith ventured off to South Dakota (with their mothers) to marry as teenagers. It was around this time when Cathy started working at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN. Cathy worked at "Crystal" right up until her retirement. For 42 years to be exact. After retiring from "Crystal" Cathy started working at the Dairy Queen in Mentor. She needed to stay busy. Cathy enjoyed walking and yoga but most of all getting her exercise in the yard. (She maintained most of her yard on a riding lawnmower.) Cathy was an avid sports fan. She and Keith rarely missed a Vikings or Twins game. She was also a die hard NDSU Bison fan. However, no team compared to the teams her children and grandchildren played on. Swapping and finding recipes were also things that Cathy enjoyed. Every get together Cathy would come with her new Tupperware bowl filled with a new recipe and say "you have to try this!" When she wasn't looking for recipes she was on the hunt for the latest "As Seen on TV" products. She should have been on each of those infomercials as she could never turn down the latest craze. Cathy kept an immaculate home. She took so much pride in her spotless and decorated house. Her most prized possessions so proudly displayed were pictures of her family and beloved grandchildren. Home was truly where Cathy's heart was. Survived by husband Keith, Mentor, MN; daughter Becky, Moorhead, MN; son Shaun (Penny Jo), Fargo, ND; grandchildren Haley, Lissy, Ceely Mae, Sutton, Gavin, Ayden, Owen, and Korbin; mother Catherine Simonson, Mentor, MN; sister Linda (Steve) Evenson, Erskine, MN; sister Cindy (Gene) Benson, Mentor, MN; sister Trudy (Lee) Austin, Baxter, MN; brother Rory (Margie) Simonson, Mentor, MN; brother Cory (Heather) Simonson, Rockford, MN; brother-in-law Greg (Donna) Bruggeman, New Castle, WY; sister-in-law Jackie (Dan) Duncan, West Fargo, ND; brother-in-law Jeff (Cheryl) Bruggeman, West Fargo, ND; brother-in-law Terry (Karen) Bruggeman, West Fargo, ND; sister-in-law Kathi (Mark) Bruggeman, Moorhead, MN; brother-in-law Steven Bruggeman, Fargo, ND; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Proceeded in death by her father Earl Simonson; father-in law-Dale Bruggeman; mother-in-law Muriel Bruggeman; and grandson Hudson Jack Bruggeman. Blessed be her memory. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at the Mentor Community Center on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
