Obituary

Beverly A. Benson, 81, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota on Monday, July 6th, 2015. Beverly Saverien was born at Hallock, Minnesota June 12, 1934 to Ludwig and Alyce (Vesey) Saverien. She attended school at Donaldson, Minnesota through the 8th grade and was a 1952 graduate of Stephen High School. Beverly enjoyed being in high school plays and was a talented piano player. On December 12, 1953 she married Norval Benson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Donaldson. The couple settled in Stephen and operated Benson Truck Service and Ready Mix. Bev was the bookkeeper for their family business and a partner and bookkeeper in Bendel Apartments until June of this year. Norval passed away on May 4, 1984. Beverly taught piano for 20 plus years and held recitals at the high school. She also taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir and bell choir. She was a member Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron. Beverly had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to write poetry, dance and spend time with her grandchildren. Her contagious laugh and outgoing personality will be missed by family and friends. Family members include a son, David (Debra) Benson, Stephen; grandsons, Michael (Becky Leegard) Benson, Manvel, ND, Mitchell Benson, Moorhead, MN and Matthew (Kayla) Benson, Stephen; companion of 31 years, Dan Sylskar, Stephen; two nephews, Steve (Carolyne Goldberg) Saverien, Pompano Beach, FL, Christopher Benson, Stephen, MN; a niece, Cindy (Mark) Stenson, Lidgerwood, ND; a sister-in-law, Darlene Benson, Stephen; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norval; an infant brother, Donald, brother, William and his wife Nola; and aunts and uncles. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in First Lutheran Church at Stephen. Interment will be in the Stephen City Cemetery. Rev. Mike Schendel, presiding; Renee Jensen, organist and Laurie Safranski, soloist. Casket bearers will be Dennis Winge, Mark Kroulik, Danny Rominski, Jeff Noel, Larry Grabowska and Scott Laudal. Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
