Bernice A. McGuire, 95, of Stephen, Minnesota passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Friday, September 19, 2014. Bernice Vary was born June 6, 1919 in Fork Township of Marshall County, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Smith) Vary. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On November 12, 1941 she married John McGuire at St. Joseph's Mission Church, near Oslo, Minnesota. The couple settled in Fork Township and farmed there until 1997 when they moved to Grafton, North Dakota. John died on February 20, 2000. Bernice enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Foxy Four Square Dance Group. Family members include a son, Lynn McGuire, Grafton, ND; daughters, Geraldine (Loren) Hoff, Oslo, Carol (Gary) Olimb, Alvarado, MN and Pat (Robert) Osowski, Stephen; 24 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Johnson, Warren, MN, Doris Cauldwell, Bessemer, AL and Evie Capp, Grafton. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret, Grace, Eleanor and Shirley. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephen Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Rev. George Noel, presiding; Marilyn Hanson, organist and St. Stephen Choir. Casket bearers will be grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00.
