Bernice Hultgren, 94, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away at Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock on Sunday morning, October 19, 2014. Bernice was born August 17, 1920 in Donnelly Township of Marshall County, Minnesota. She was the second of ten children born to Albert and Edith (Blomquist) Grandstrand. Bernice grew up on the family farm in rural Stephen, Minnesota. She attended the Happy Corner country school of rural Stephen and junior high school in Lake Bronson, Minnesota. Bernice worked at several jobs in the area. On July 20, 1943 she married George Hultgren at Halma, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Kennedy and Karlstad, Minnesota before moving to the new home on their farm in Tegner Township. Bernice and George had two sons, Gary and Wayne. Bernice enjoyed working on their farm and raising their two boys. Some of her hobbies included cooking and baking, working with their farm animals, reading, attending bible studies and going to high school sporting events, watching her sons and grandchildren compete. George passed away on December 4, 1969. Bernice move to Thief River Falls, Minnesota in 1973 and lived and worked there until the mid 1980's when she returned to Kennedy and her present home. Bernice is survived by sons, Gary (Kay) Hultgren, Kennedy, MN, Wayne Hultgren, Kennedy; grandchildren, Tina (Jon) Turn, Kennedy, Jennifer (Doug) Annett, Minneapolis, MN, Kaitlyn Hultgren, Grand Forks, ND, Tyler Hultgren, St. Cloud, MN, Blake Hultgren, Grand Forks; great grandchildren, Alexis Turn, Marlee Turn, Morgan Turn, Brenna Turn and Julian Annett; a brother, Carl (Mary Jane) Grandstrand, Albert Lea, MN; sisters-in-law, Lila Grandstrand, Karlstad, Edythe Grandstrand, Stephen, LuAnn Grandstrand, Clouqet, MN and Beth Grandstrand, Karlstad; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Melvin, Gordon, Paul Delbert, Robert and Dale; sisters, Edna (Bill) Nagel and Grace (Vernon) Frei; and all her husband's brothers, sisters and their spouses. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Maria Lutheran Church at Kennedy. Interment will be in the Kennedy City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Pastor Kathy Levenhagen, presiding; Charles and Patti Swanson, duet. Casket bearers will be all of Bernice's grandchildren.
