Ann Peterson passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013 in her home at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN. Ann was born at home in McKinley Township northeast of Lancaster, MN on October 23, 1920 to Nels and Maria Jacobson, who had both come to the United States from Sweden; Maria (Pearson) from Jamtland and Nels from Skane. Ann joined siblings Minnie, Carl and Melvin and sisters Violet and Lillian came along later. The family moved to Cannon Township between Lancaster and Lake Bronson where her father farmed and Ann and her siblings attended school. Ann and Raymond Peterson were united in marriage on July 19th, 1942. From that union came nine children. Ann was very nurturing of her family in every way. She was constant in her unconditional love, guidance and example to her children. Ann and Ray enjoyed six grandchildren and they have five great grandchildren. Everyone loved going to Grandma's house; she was always at the door to greet you with open arms and always waving goodbye until you were out of sight. Without realizing it, she was providing beautiful memories in so many ways that live on through generations. Ann and Raymond lived in Mineral Wells, Texas the first three years of their marriage while Raymond was in the Army. When they returned to Minnesota, they moved to Lake Bronson, where they lived in the same home on Main Street for 45 years. Ann's mother Maria moved to Lake Bronson too and lived across the street from Ann and family for many years and was such a major part of the family's life. It was such a busy household with all the children and the many kids from town they attracted. Ann welcomed all. In her early years, Ann worked as a live-in for families doing housework and later worked on the Kiene Farm. During the children's younger years, Ann was a homemaker and people in town starting bringing her sewing jobs. She tackled challenging sewing projects, perfecting them all, sewing wedding dresses, coats, etc. and she enjoyed making cheerleading outfits for many of the girls in town. Ann mastered crocheting as well. She made beautiful baby dresses, a Christening gown and blanket that has been passed on within the family, as well as several keepsake afghans and quilts for her family. In the mid 60's she started working outside the home cooking at the Dairy Bar in Lake Bronson and later working at the Farmer's Store. In the early 70's Ann and family took over the Community Coffee Cup restaurant (formerly named the Dairy Bar) in Lake Bronson and business was great with Ann's good cooking. Ann later worked at Arctic Cat clothing division in Karlstad for about 10 years. Through the years there were frequent trips to the Twin Cities to visit Ray's sister Alyce and family, other family on Ray's side and to visit the kids as they grew older and had moved to the Twin Cities to work. Ann and Ray also enjoyed travel to Missouri and Oklahoma and one very nostalgic trip to Texas, returning to Mineral Wells, TX after 45 years. Ann moved to Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center (KMHC) in Hallock in 2004 where she resided until her passing. She was very happy there and said if she can't be home, KMHC is the place to be. Ann was a member of the Covenant Church and enjoyed the church services they and other churches provided at KMHC. Retirement years provided Ann the time to enjoy her passion for reading, which she enjoyed until her last few days. She remained mentally sharp and of good humor and loved the challenge of completing the paper's daily crossword puzzle. Ann is survived by her sons Dwayne (Linda), Vadnais Heights, MN; David, Lake Bronson, MN; daughters Sherryl Anderson (Garin), Woodbury, MN; Esther Peterson, Lake Bronson, MN; Donna Cantrell, Edmond, OK; grandchildren Mark Lancman (Kim), Fargo, ND; Christopher Peterson (Amy), Palmetto, GA; Amy Peterson, Vadnais Heights, MN; Garrett Finley, South St. Paul, MN; Katie (Finley) Miller (Jason), Roseville, MN; great grandchildren Jacob, Jaden and Jayme Lancman, Fargo, ND; and Gabriel and Kristie Lynn Miller, Roseville, MN; several nieces and nephews, her loving family at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center and a host of friends. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, sons Brian and Daniel, daughters Arlyne and Kristie, and grandson Jonathan. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27th, at the Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th, at the Community Covenant Church in Lake Bronson with Pastor Wesley Staie presiding, with interment at the Riverside Cemetery in Lake Bronson.
