Obituary

Alma M. Sundin, age 91, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, North Dakota.

Alma Marie Arneson was born on August 6, 1931, the daughter of Ben and Olga (Chase) Arneson at the family home near Roseau, Minnesota. Alma graduated from Roseau High School in 1950 and moved to Eagle Point Township in Marshall County, Minnesota, to assist with childcare in the area. Alma married Vernon D. Sundin on November 5, 1955, at the Eagle Point Baptist Church. Together they made their home on the Sundin farm and had four children: Janet, Una, Darrel and Joy. Alma cared for her family, was a homemaker, was involved with her church and  4-H and helped Vernon with craft shows in later years.

Alma is survived by her children, Janet (Peter) Byzewski, Una (Michael) Ireland and Joy (Redgy) Swedberg; her grandchildren, Megan Ireland, Emma Ireland, Ashley (Daniel) Posey and Kim Swedberg; her sister, Nancy (Daniel) Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; a son, Darrel; and siblings, Anna, Thelma, Dorothy, Bert, Bernice, Esther, Darlyne, Othelia, David and Ethel.

Alma lived a life of faith in Jesus as her Savior. From Scripture we understand that life has not ended, but changed, and for the Christian to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord (2 Cor.5:8) We look forward to the day when the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be reunited with her in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:52).

We would like to thank the staff of Lutheran Sunset Home, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Unity Medical Center, the Tamarac of Stephen, MN and Tim and Cheryll Hvidsten for their invaluable care and support.

We thank God for our mother. May her memory be blessed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. in Austin Funeral Chapel, Drayton, ND with interment immediately following the service at the Eagle Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
